FEA going extremely slow stress analysis

I'm running windows 10 home 64-bit with a Intel Core I7-6700HQ CPU, 2.6 GHz, 16GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 530 / GeForce GTX 960M GPU. When running Autodesk Inventor Professional 2018. When creating a stress analysis study, loading the forces menu and assigning forces goes extremely slow on a simple part file. Also when assigning constraints in an assembly, the pop out menu to assign constraints takes a long time to load and then once finally opened, selecting the two parts goes quickly. Not sure why Inventor is going this slow but it was faster in previous version on a slower computer that I previously owned. Does anyone know what the issue may be and how I can solve this problem and speed up Inventor? I have my computer running at maximum performance. Thanks.

Can you post the part for us to take a look at. It may be a simple part but if you have any small features such as holes or narrow parts of the model, will cause the "mesher" to create a very small mesh. This means considerable more time to run.

 

Also try rebooting your machine, possible Microsoft updates may need a reboot to finish installing and this will slow down your system.

 

It wouldn't hurt to open the Task Manager in Windows and see what is taking your system resources.

I restarted my computer, I don't have any other major applications running, and no windows updates pending. The stress analysis creates the mesh quickly and runs the simulations quickly, but when I click on force to place a force vector, it goes extremely slow. Same things also occurs when constraining parts in an assembly. Not sure what the issue is. I've attached the file I'm attempting to do a stress analysis on.

Hi! You may want to consider using Delete Face command (with Heal option) to remove the fillets. If it does not work, you may consider using the following registry key to reduce complexity of the mesh.

 

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\Simulation\RegistryFEACS]

"MaxJacobianRatio"=dword:000003e8

I’ look at the part later. The last Win 10 Fall Creator has caused some problems, especially with the Contraints command

I had no problems meshing and running a FEA on the part even with the Fillet issues. Since you didn't have a material defined (generic) is not material that can be used for FEA.

 

I would have used more symmetry when modeling this part. Placing dimensions in features 3 & 5 and then filleting caused the issues with the upper and lower end holes. 

 

Using the Extrude function to create holes, only creates round extrusions and not holes that can be used for downstream use. These extrusion features won't be picked up by functions as the "Hole Table" within the drawing environment.

 

Extrusion9/Sketch7, I wouldn't have placed the end fillets in the sketch but would have used the feature Fillet command.

 

Extrusion10/Sketch8, It's better to mirror features rather than sketches. The rectangular opening and all the end holes could have been mirror about the XY Plane. The same could have been done with the Extrusion6/Sketch9 feature. One side could have been done and then mirrored YZ Plane had you done your first extrusion in both directions rather than in one direction.
