What's the real difference between Factory Design Suite and Product Design Suite? I have to install only one and it appears as though I could utilize both. Some of my work is creating 2D plan and elevation views of a building space. Other times I'm visualizing a product and need some tools for creating rope and pipes.
I'm not looking for the advertised features more what can you actually do or not do? Ie. I know that FDS is for factory layouts and PDS is more for mechanical design. However that doesn't help me determine which to install if I may need the 2d FDS style layout but also need some piping feature for PDS. What can FDS do that PDS can't and vice versa?
What suite level are looking at for FDS: Standard, Prem or Ultimate?

Hi!
Regarding Inventor:
Inventor are equal in both suites... both have the same design capabilities.
Except: In FDS, inventor adds the Factory assets, and a interrelation with Autocad architectural.
Factory assets are parametric parts that you have disponible to use (kind of a Factory content Center) that are present in factory layouts as conveyors, machines, fences, furniture, etc etc etc.
Note: To have piping design module, you have to acquire the Ultimatum Suite.
Also the package brings different softwares. You can compare here which softwares are coming in which package and choose which fits you better.
Compare both Here:

If you go with FDS Standard: No Inventor included
If you go with FDS Prem: Inventor = PDS Prem
If you go with FDS Ultimate: Inventor Professional = PDS Ultimate
As you indicated FDS is for factory layouts.. It also includes AutoCAD Arch and AutoCAD MEP. So if you go with Ultimate suite you basically will have both worlds (manufacturing and factory).
