Extrude Question

Hello All,

I'm trying to extrude the 3/4 coil through the top of the cylinder so essentially the 3/4 coil could be dropped into the cylinder and be used as a gage of sorts that will test ID/OD and also the pitch.  I've searched and searched to no avail.  Attached is a file.  I need to take the coil and extrude the profile of the coil in the x axis.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.

What version are you using.  I have 2013 so I want to make sure I can load your file.

What are you trying to do with this IPT, you have combined the Coil.IPT in with this Base.IPT

From a practical standpoint, I want to take the Coil.ipt and do the equivalent of pushing it into clay with the clay being the Base.ipt.  I feel like this should be very simple, but I am obviously missing something.

I'm using dummy files for this example, but what I have is a wireform that is 3 dimensional and I want to make a gage that I can drop the wireform into that checks the dimensions from the top view, and also side view.

For this example, I created a 3/4 coil spring which does a good job of creating the difficulties of the 3d wireform, which I cannot share.  The wireform CAD is customer supplied.

Possibly look at the "Sculpt" Feature within the Inventor Help, or create an Adaptive Part within the IAM file projecting the required geometry.

Is something like this what you are trying to do?

I believe so.  Does that still maintain the pitch in the X axis?

Can you send the file so I can see it?

I am having trouble with my internet connection - I will attach a couple of possible solutions when I get a chance.

It almost sounds as though a skeleton assembly might be in order for what you are doing.  Or creating a cavity mold type arrangement.

I was thinking that inserting a part into a part might work, but I don't think it would based on what has been described here.
