Extrude Not Working (Doesn't Recognize Full Shape)

I'm trying to extrude a DWG file that I imported from Adobe Illustrator, but it doesn't seem to recognize it as a whole shape. I checked all of the paths to make sure it's closed, but it's only letting me select the outlines to extrude, not the shape itself. I've attached a screenshot for reference. Please help!

It is possible some curves missing coincident constraints. Edit the sketch -> right-click on the sketch in the browser -> Sketch Doctor. Another possibility is the curve self-intersects. If possible, please post the file here or send it to me directly (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com).

Many thanks!

That seemed to fix the problem. The curves were in fact missing coincident constraints. Thank you very much Mr. Shiue!

Which is exactly why I posted here. 🙂 Every time I have a problem with Inventor, I come to these forums and always get the help I need. And it's often very quick!

Hi,

I am using inventor 2020. I have the same problem, and I tried the sketch doctor but it says that "no problems found". what am I missing?

Please post your file here, and tell us what version of Inventor.  I don't think it's possible for anyone to give a helpful answer without the file.

I don't know what's going on here.  None of the geometry in the sketch is selectable for use in a solid, and even if I create another profile in the same sketch, it, too, is not selectable to create an extruded solid.

In addition, if I extrude these profiles as surfaces, they are usable with Sculpt to create solid bodies.

If I create a new sketch, geometry placed there can be extruded to a solid body.  I can project geometry from Sketch1 to the new sketch and extrude it to a solid body, also.

I suspect there is a corruption problem with Sketch1, but someone from Autodesk (paging @johnsonshiue ) will have to verify that.  What happens if you start a new file and try the same workflow again?  Is the problem replicated?  What is the source of the geometry?

I did not try to project geometry from Sketch1 to the new sketch and extrude it to a solid body. But I did start a new file and try the same workflow again and the problem is replicated. The source of the geometry is text in Illustrator I exported as a DWG file. Now that I try to project geometry from Sketch1 to the new sketch and extrude it to a solid body. I am not able to do everything at once. I can only do one shape at once.

Hi! This one looks like a bug to me. Somehow the profile is leaky but Sketch Doctor does not report an issue. The workaround is to create another sketch and project the text sketch geometry. After that, the profiles can be selected.

Something is wrong for sure.

Let me work with the project team to understand it better.

Many thanks!

Hello @Anonymous,

Could you help to send me the source DXF file via email below for further investigation?

Or is it export from other 3rd application such as "Illustrator" after created outline for the text?

Thanks!

Xun
