Please post your part, (or a dummy with the same problem) and Inventor option.  It is easier for forum members to help if they have access to the native Inventor files.

Design intent question: Why are you extruding this flat bar in a angle iron part?  I would normally do this as two separate part files, then combine in an assembly file.

It appears that you're trying to create this extrusion in an assembly file, not in a part file.  Assembly extrusions can only remove material, not create material.  You will need to create a new part, create a sketch, then extrude it.  Then place it in your assembly and constrain it to the angle.

I find it faster to simply add a sketch and extrude it than generate a second component, save, import, join, and resave.
