You have an open mesh - so this is not going to work.

Your scanner software should be able to do this.

What scanner are you using?

I have a Sense scanner.

The software that you download from their website will close the open areas of the scan.

You need to do this before bringing into Inventor.

yes it has that option that fills all open holes/areas. but it is still mesh. how to convert in solid? Inventors plugin 'mesh enabler' is not working.

You need a relatively "clean" mesh for the meshenabler to work.

You would have to do a lot of cleaning up of that mesh in the Sense software.

Can your scanner output in any other format (.sat, .iges, .step)?  I'd try that.  I always seem to have the most problems w/ .stl files.

Can you zip and attach your original stl or obj file here?

I've been experimenting a bit on this type of work today and might be able to find time tomorrow to work up a video using your file.
