Export to .obj files colors/materials not working in 2019?

  • I currently upgraded to 2019 from 2017.
  • Working on a company project to move from 2d to 3D model space, i was using Inventor 2017 and exporting our assemblies to .obj files for an additional project. When i used 2019 and started exporting to .obj (same process)  the files did not have any materials when i opened it in Windows 3D Viewer using the same process.
  • Is this a feature that was taken out or does inventor have a setting i can toggle with?

Thank you,

-Al

Hello seventhmoreno,
I think there is no difference between 2017 and 2019.
Please see the "newmtl" of .mtl file with opening the NotePAD. If color is not translated then the newmtl value is not RGB but characters.
Thanks,

I can see the difference in the 2 .mtl files exported from 2017 and 2019. The newmtl value is not RGB, I will work with the project team for this issue.

is this a quick fix? I am asking because i would hate to delay my team so if this fix will take a couple weeks i will need to find another approach to export.

2019.3.1 is the next update which will be released around Feb 7th. I have reported this problem to development team, and they are working on a fix.

Hi,

Would you please let me know if you exported the file by another approach? Just checked with the project team, this issue is targeted to 2019.4 Update which will be released in early of April.

Hi! For 2020, you may need to install 2020.1 to get the fix. Some of the fixes may appear in 2019.4 first followed by the next update to 2020, which is 2020.1. Please try 2020.1 and report back. It should have been fixed.

Many thanks!

Hi Guys,

Based on our internal record, it should have been fixed as of 2020.1 and 2019.4.1 update. If you are still seeing the issue, we might have other issues. Please share an example exhibiting the behavior so that the project team can take a further look.

Many thanks!

IAM is not enough.

Included IPTs and sub-assemblies are needed, too.

Best way is uploading a zipped Pack&Go of the main assembly

Apologies, bit hectic here at the moment. Please find a zip of the full assembly.

Seems to work going into infraworks with the obj export. Colors are displayed correct for the one test I did.

Hi,

When I export the obj in 2019 I get the .obj, .mtl(with the correct mappings i.e. map_Kd 0036-18-1001/Metal_1.png)  files and a Folder with the png's.  When I export from 2020 I only get the .obj and .mtl files and the mtl file does not have the mappings.

Thanks,

Shaun

The problem seems to be fixed now with the new Inventor 2020.2 update.
