Export/share geometry to another part

Hello,

I'm tryint to fit on the Inventor on my new job. I come from use PTC creo from many years.

I can't find the way to export geometry from a part to another part in Inventor. I mean.. Imagine you are designing a 2 machined parts that come from the same forged body. I would like to generate the forge body in a new part and do a specific drawing for forge. Then, I want to get the geometry from the forged part into a new part and make the machining operations without the risk to modify the primary forge body...

Is that possible in Inventor?

Hi,

You could use the "Derive" function for this:

and

Kind regards,

Depending on whether you are using Inventor 2022 or not, It sounds like a job for the new model states feature. I have had the same headache in previous versions of Inventor and this feature has really helped with them.

Hi! Yes, this can be done using Derive (all releases). Or, Model States (2022 and after). If you have multiple solid bodies, you want to push each solid body as a part in an assembly, go to Manage -> Make Components or Make Part. Essentially, it automate the process of deriving the solid body.

Many thanks!

Many thanks people, "derived" is what I was looking for.

Model states is like "Simplified representations" in Creo. Good it becomes to Inventor.
