Export iam to rfa file

I have looked how to export an iam file to rfa.  When I go to export building components, the file type does not show rfa.  Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi nmayrose,

You will want to use the Export Building Components tool.

  1. Go to the Environment's tab > BIM Exchange button.
  2. This will open the BIM Exchange tab.
  3. There go to the Manage panel  > Export Building Components button

Curtis,

Thank you for your reply.  I have gone through all those steps, but when I choose the actual file type to convert it to, rfa (Revit) is not listed.  Only .adsk & .ifc are listed.

Thank you,

Nicole

Hi nmayrose,

Would I be wrong in saying that only parts can be exported as a *.rfa ?

I don't recall, but I did a quick check and that is what I'm seeing. But it's been a long time since I've messed with the BIM Exchange tools.

Maybe you'll need to do a Shrinkwrap on the assembly first?

Maybe someone else can confirm this for us?

I hope this helps.

Hi @Anonymous,

I can second Curtis_Waguespack's statement. Only part files can be exported as *.rfa - assemblies will be exported as *.adsk. You don't need to worry though, *.adsk is also a native Revit file.

And another video on exporting assemblies to Revit Smiley Happy

Is there a particular reason you insist on *.rfa?

Regards

To export to RFA you will need to simplify your assembly into a part and run the recognise revit features command. You may find that you have to rebuild some features if they cannot be recognized as a revit feature.
