Exploded an Assembly

Hi,

I am familiar on how you can create a presentation file in Autodesk Inventor for an assembly. What I would like to know, I have a copy print with an exploded view of the parts for a particular assembly from  a client.

Will I need the original assembly file and parts files for this layout in a format that will allow me use it as a presentation file in Autodesk Inventor.

Any advice and suggestion will be accepted.

Regards

Hi,

But what is needed is parts and assembly(sub-assemblies).  (Just like in the real world.)

That should be obvious.

While I do understand what is needed are the parts that create an assembly(sub-assemblies). As can be seen from the attached drawing there are 52 units or sub-assemblies that make up the overall assembly.

If each of these 52  file parts and assembly were available in a format universal to the Inventor product, then could it be possible to re-create an exploded assembly within this software?

Can you confirm from your experience, is it practical to exchange exploded assemblies created by software but are compatible products?

1. Yes, of course.  Exploded assembly views can be created in Inventor.

2. Can you reword this question.  I do not understand the question as it is written.

Hi

I understand you can import external created files to Inventor as a 3D Solid or Surface file format or as a Iges/Step format.

If an exploded assembly view was created by another design software product but is compatible with AutoCad Inventor, what type of file information would be necessary to re-produce this feature in Inventor.

Are you advising that you would require an assembly file with all its connected part files. If these are compatible to Inventor and contain all the necessary properties, then you should be able to use this information to create an exploded view using the presentation file feature in Inventor?

You need parts.

You need assemblies.

That is pretty simple.

Nothing more needs to be said.

Technically, Presentation (*.ipn) is not needed.

The Presentation simply has tools for automating the process of creating the Exploded "assembly" that would otherwise have to be done manually in assembly mode.

The advantage besides automated tools is that it does not "mess" with your assembly.

Hi,

Thanks again for your input. I will check what file format can be provided by my work partners, hopefully a file format compatible to Inventor. If I an able to acquire the original assembly including all the part files associated, I will see if I can re-create an exploded view through Inventor.

I will let you know how it goes, if I get to that stage.
