Copy Positional Representation to Parent Assemblies

I have a clamp assembly that is 6 sub-assemblies deep from the top level assembly.

I want to copy the three positional representations (open, closed, clamped) to all the parents.

Is there an easy way to do this? I was thinking about making an idea station post, but I figured I'd Check here.

They way it would work in my mind is in the top level assembly I would drive down into the browser and find the clamp assembly, RMB, and there would be an option called 'Propagate Pos. Reps' or something like that.

Does that make sense? Is there something I'm missing that would make that undesirable?

Hi Andrew,

At the moment, indeed you cannot copy PosRep Overrides from one level to another. But, there is a workflow "sort of" helping. Here is what you could try.

1) Open the assembly with PosReps.

2) Go to the Browser -> Add Representation tab.

3) Click on the Excel button at the bottom.

You will see a table capturing all the overrides. You can copy it to somewhere or add new PosRep.

I know this is an old thread, but I haven't tried it until now.

So...now that I was able to copy my positional reps to the top level assembly, is there a way to "link them" without re-activating each one (one-at-a-time)? ...Similar to the Model States...where you can at least link by name?...

Unfortunately, I am not aware of a way to link PosReps. You said you were able to copy PosReps from a lower level to an upper level?

Thanks for responding, Johnson. I was able to copy the PosRep names as you instructed above, but that's all. Their associations with the constraint that controls them still needs to be done manually.

Because in higher level there is no constrain.

Lowest has constrain for PosRep.

Higher up just use that PosRep and it keep moving up.

If you use same PosRep a lot, put them in template.

I like the template idea. But I was trying to get away from the tedious process of activating each PosRep in the top level assy to link it to that of the subassy.

At the moment, not much you can do.

Except make iLogic rule to do that.
