excel table nightmare

I'm experiencing a bit of trouble; I go and create a table in Excel. This particular table is 5 columns x 4 rows.

In IV, Insert Object, browse to Excel table, Link, OK.

Now, sometimes, the table doesn't display correctly.....it displays blank rows/columns, or just part of the table. I have to open/close Excel or copy into new spreadsheet, or just keep trying, in order for it to work.

On other occasions, it displays the whole table!

Is there a way round this? Surely, it cant be just me!

Have you ever used the general table tool built in to Inventor?  You can create empty tables directly in Inventor without having to deal with excel. These are simple text tables though; you can't have functions in them (as far as I know).

You can also take this one step further and create a table from an already established excel document.

To create a general table:

To create a table using an .xls file:

Thanks for the reply.

you're right, I could use a general table, but the trouble is, in the table there are merged rows - i'm not aware this can be done in IV (at least not that I'm aware of.

Hi! This could be related to your screen resolution. Inventor take a snapshot of the table on insert. Could you tell me what display resolution you are running?

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

The resolution is 1920x1080

Attached is an example of the table issue. You will notice the 2 extra columns to the right of the table. Also, not all the rows are shown.

Thanks

Hi! Could you share the files here or send them to me (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com). I am using a Ultra HD monitor. I would like to see how the table behaves on my machine.

Many thanks!
