Excel link missing Inventor 2020

Dear all,

First of all I wan't to say how awesome this forum is, most of the problems I found can be solved by searching this forum. That said i've got a problem that is related to Inventor 2020, so there aren't many related topics.

Today I switched to Inventor 2020, The first impression is awesome. But there is a major problem shown up.

For my projects I use an Excel file to put in data that is linked to many (thousands) parts and assemblies. I've found out that in Inventor2020 all the links to the Excel file is missing. All the linked parameters are yellow. I've tried to link them again (Excel file, starting cell) but they keep showing up yellow.

Is this feature not yet supported in the newest release? Or is there a new way to link excel sheets?

Without this feature my work is useless...

Many thanks up front to the person with the solution.

Nick

Hi Nick,

Do you have Excel.exe installed on the same machine? If not, parameter linking, iPart, and iAssembly will not work.

Many thanks!

Dear Johnson,

Thanks for your reply. I have installed Excel.exe on my machine. I try to reinstall inventor 2020 with a little succes.

Some parts have restored the link to the Excel data sheet/starting cell. Some don't... This only makes the problem  weirder.

For example:

Part B200100 -> Row 1050/ column C

10 parameters linked to other cells

Works fine

Part B200200 - Row 1050/ column Z

10 parameters linked to other cells (Same parameters name's as Part B200100 but other value's)

Doesn't work (no link, parameters yellow)

I've checked the file on my other desktop where Inventor 2019 is still installed and all the parts works correctly in this version.

What could this problem be?

So after a day of searching I found the problem. A few months ago I added the systeem parameter UseLibXL to my system configuration to speed up the link between Excel and inventor. This worked very good and speeded up my working with excel significant.

But apparently Inventor2020 can't handle this parameter and won't read out excel value's with this setting active... When I delete this parameter in my configuration everything works fine's but veryyyyyy slow...

Is it possible to fix this problem??? So everything speeds up again

Hi! In some spreadsheet related workflows, Inventor 2020 and 2019 no longer rely on Excel.exe. There is no need to add "UseLibXL" but it should not be slow either. Have you installed critical Windows updates and the latest graphics driver? Can to you share an example showing the poor performance in Excel linking workflow? We are aware of a few but we would like to know if the issue you are seeing is known. Many thanks!
