Can't move components into an assembly folder

Hello, I am using Inventor 2019. I am attempting to drag components from an assembly into a subassembly. Each time it just moves the component below the subassembly instead of moving it into the subassembly. I have tried multiple assemblies, and multiple computers. Any ideas on what could be stopping me from doing this?

Thanks in advance.

Can you create a Screencast video of you attempt or Attach the assembly here?

I have attached the zip file of one of the assemblies. All I want to do is move any component into the "Finger" subassembly by dragging it. It doesn't seem to be specific to this assembly, though. I made an assembly with basic prisms and still had the same problem.

I got it to work! I went back to try again while making a video to share. I was dragging and dropping the components directly onto the assembly name in the tree. Instead, I expanded the assembly, and was then able to drop the component into the assembly.

Thanks!

I am having the same issue.. Can't move parts into an assembly in the file tree.

I've tried everything , the Assembly is expanded in the tree. Still nothing drops in.

Any ideas?

Hi! I am sorry I don't understand why it does not work. It should work. I tried a simple case on my machine and it seems to work. Please share the files here so forum experts can take a look.

Many thanks!

I think that the issue is with the work planes that exist in the subassembly. Instead of trying to drag the part below the work planes, just drag and drop it on the Origin folder. That worked for me...

That is exactly right.

Open the file tree  of the new assembly and drag drop the parts at the origin point in the file tree.

Thanks for the reply

Also you can Shift- Highlight multiple parts and drag drop at the origin of the new assembly. However, I was unable to drag-drop associated custom work planes - fyi

Select all components and right click , go to components, demode , select a name and the template.

Still has issues in 2024. looks like if you reuse components in frame generator those specific components assume their own tree structure and become fixed in the tree. They cannot be moved or restructured. Almost as if they are elements in a pattern command within the part environment. Really annoying that these components cannot be restructured for organizing in the context of assembly. If any components are reused it throws your entire organized folder structure off.

The circled red components are reused and fixed in position. Wont restructure into folders.
