Error 'The database in [filepath] could not be opened' for DWG files

I just upgraded from a Win 7/Inventor 2012 to a Win10/Inventor 2017 system. I can open all old 2012 files, but when I save DWG files to 2017, I cannot open them anymore and get the message above. I can also not start a new drawing, starting with my 2012 to 2017 saved template (DWG) file. So, the problem is with the DWG's.

Can anybody help me with this?

Hi! I believe this is related to Inventor DWG version. Go to Tools -> Application Options -> Drawing -> Inventor DWG File Version. Set it to AutoCAD 2010. Then, the dwg file save in Inventor will be compatible to AutoCAD 2010. And, AutoCAD 2012 should be able to open it.

If you are export Inventor idw/dwg to AutoCAD dwg, make sure you change the export version to AutoCAD 2010 also (last used). Or, you can save the setting as a .ini file so you can use it later.

Many thanks!

I did some more tests yesterday and found out that also new Inventor 2017 DWG files cannot be re-opened. So, I think it has nothing to do with the previous version I worked with.

If I try to open the iProperties of a newly created (and saved) DWG file, I get an error (see 'Error iProperties 2017 DWG'). When I continue anyway, I can see no version information (see 'iProperties 2017 DWG') which cannot be ok. As a reference when I create and save a PRT file I can re-open the file and also the iProperties give version information (see 'iProperties 2017 IPT'). What I find a bit strange is that this says '2017.3 (Build 213256000, 256)' while my installed version is 'Build: 256, Release: 2017.4.8' (see 'About Inventor 2017'). Don't know if this is of any importance.

After this I did a repair and reinstall of DWG TrueView 2017 and Inventor Professional 2017 without any result.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

SOLVED!

It turned out to be a language setting of Windows 10. I found out I also had problems with opening Autocad 2017 and with solving that, the Inventor DWG problem was also solved.

I changed the default app language from English (Netherlands) to English (United States).
