Error "no closed loops" when trying to use sweep path and guide rail

Receiving the error message: "No valid closed loops found in sketch for building a profile. Use Project Geometry, add sketch geometry, and/or drag the loop endpoints to close the loop." when trying to use to sweep tool.

I have re-traced sketches to attempt to re-solve this, I don't understand the issue occurring.

Hi!

You must have the profile in one 2D sketch, the path can be in 2D or 3D, BUT all path in the same sketch.

You have too many sketches for the task.

Thanks, this has allowed me to access the sweep tool, however I am unable to create the surface still, I have attached the updated file

I am not positive what you are trying to do, but see if this has the desired outcome. I used a surface loft and used the thicken tool to give it a thickness. If this does not help would you be able to give more detail on what you are trying to achieve/what the desired outcome is?

Hi, I am trying to develop a flapping wing shape.

As seen in the image, the angle beta creates a curved surface when attached to the perpendicular frame.

I am trying to model this as accurately as possible.

In a previous post I was advised to use sweep tool to produce a more natural shape rather than loft.

I am unable to open your file as my software is an older version - (I cannot update as I am using inventor through a remote application through university). But I have also used the loft tool, however I believe sweep would provide a more realistic curve. Any suggestions?

I have attached a version provided by another user showing me the sweep, however I cannot replicate this in my own version.

Ok, I think I was able to replicate something similar. Using their geometry, in the sweep command you'll want to be in surface mode. Where it says "Orientation" you want to select "Guide" which is the third icon. After that go to the front view. Short line on the right as the profile, long line on top as the path, curved line as guide. That will get the replication of their part. With your geometry the same selections give issue, I'm assuming because of difficulties from the notch in the corner. I was able to get a sweep to work with yours by using the curve as the path and long line at the top as guide.

Do you have any suggestions for creating the notch by any chance please? Hole and extrusion do not seem to work

Now that you have the surface you can do 2 things:

1- Work with surface tools, like TRIM, to edit the surface (it's hard to work with surfaces if you're not used to do it), or
2- create a solid body (using the THICKEN tool in the surface). After you have a solid, you can use the solid tools like HOLE or EXTRUDE cut.
