Error message trying to open files.

I am very new to Inventor ( not new to solid modeling) and have started working with it to transition from my current modeling software. 

I started a model last week saved it to a directory I created and now I am getting the attached error message.

What am I doing wrong?

Also once I get it open I need some help.  The profile that I have created will not extrude.  The holes in the profile will extrude as solids, not what I want, but the outer block that the holes are supposed to be in will not.  Is there someway in Inventor check the geometry and make sure that all of the lines on the perimeter are connected and will form a surface that can be extruded?  Third question:  How can I import a series of points in space that will be connected with a spline.  I have figured out how to import the points, but they are just points.

My first question is why are you opening the backup copy of the file and not the original version?

While sketching, right mouse click and select sketch doctor from the contextual menu.

Or share your file here (along with Inventor version) and others can review your information and provide solutions to your sketching structure.

I tried opening all of the files.  I was getting the same message for all of them.

Are you saying that you get the same message if don't open the file from the old versions directory?

On the sketch issues, have a look at this link as it might help going forward:

On the OldVersions issue, as others have said, you typically don't want to open any files from that folder unless you are trying to recover a file...

I suspect what you might have done is accidentally saved files in that folder, if that's the case move those files one folder up and open the file(s) from there and I think you'll be back on track.

Thanks for the help.  It turns out that I was saving the files in a location where I should not have and trying to open files that I should not have been trying to open.  Autodesk tech support explained what I was doing wrong and Mr. Waguespack below also had the solution.
