Editing styles manager in Inventor LT?

Hi,

I have recently created a company border and am trying to make some default styles to suit. When I open my drawing template the changes I have made to the styles are being overwritten by the default style library settings (along with a error message). I have read that this is because I have not updated these local changes into my styles manager, and when they do not match the default styles take preference.

Every tutorial I have found on the issue has been on Inventor, not Inventor LT, and all suggest changing the read only settings to read/write in the project file. Obviously LT doesn't have project files, so I found an alternative solution that suggests going to Application Options > File > Use Style Libraries and selecting NO. This option is also grayed out, and I am unable to figure out how to access this. Is this some sort of administrative block?

Although our company is a veteran AutoCAD user, this is our first time setting up and using Inventor. It's very important to start as we mean to go on and make sure the procedures/processes we use are the correct ones, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Rob.

p.s - I have just seen a video claiming that .idw and .dwg files both offer the same features for drawing, only, .dwg is compatible with more programs. We have no official drawings yet so now is a good time to decide which path to go down. Should we choose .dwg or .idw? Any suggestions??

My suggestion and to avoid styles conflict is to create your own styles..  See this article.  That way you don't have to worry about any settings in your project file especially when you're using Inventor LT.

Update:  On the drawing aspect, its up to you since they're the same.  Although when using the .DWG format, it makes it easier to open in applications that supports .DWG.  But just keep in mind its not a true AutoCAD drawing where you have the ability to edit geometry and etc..

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the article, it has helped clear things up a bit and improved my understanding of style editing. I am however still having conflict problems. I have followed steps suggested; creating my own styles, creating my own object defaults, linking those styles to the new object default, and then creating a new standard with my objective defaults. Having then saved that template, when I open it as a 'new' drawing I still get the conflict message. It says there is a conflict between Layers: Border (ISO), and Standard: Default Standard (BSI). When I continue into the drawing and go to styles editor, the standard I created in my template is not available despite the fact that if i return to my template the standard is still saved locally. I'm not very confused.

Any suggestions?

p.s To add, I carried out these actions in the read only mode for styles editor. Could this be the reason it did not work? I am yet to figure out how to change this to read/write in LT.

So I have redone the steps that were suggested with some more success. I started a fresh drawing, did some quick style alterations and saved this as a new template. Opening this as a new drawing I have received no conflict message and the changes made are there. I don't know why this is not the case with my other template. I have since updated my template back the style library settings, and even when this is then saved and opened as a drawing I still get the conflict message. The other thing I am struggling with is reducing the line weight of the border and sketch geometry. I have created my desired styles and linked these to the corresponding objects, only, the border and sketch line weight remain unchanged. There is no visible change in the template either when I do this.

If you are making changes to layers and the thickness of those layers than you are impacting the styles as well.  All that "stuff" is recorded in the assigned "design data" folder.  You may want to individually change the line thickness using right mouse click on the entity and change its properties from there.

Mark- I have managed to alter some of the layers to the correct line weight. The last issue I have is the line weight of the model. I would have assumed that the layer assigned to the sketch geometry/ 3D sketch geometry controls the line weight of the model, but changing these is having no effect on my part drawing. Any suggestions? Are the model line weights controlled by another object?

Cheers

Regular model lines are the layer named "Visible"
