Editing Dimensions Moves The Object Across the Screen

So,

I am making 6 oblongs (12 oblong heads) within a circle, both at the same center. The oblongs are 7.08mm high and 0.82mm wide. The circle's diameter is 5.58mm, and there is an additional circle outside of this with a diameter of 20mm, also centered at the same point as the oblong and the smaller circle.

What I tried to do was to make a gap between the first 3 oblong heads of 0.82mm. This worked fine, but when I tried to make a gap between the opposing oblong-heads of 0.82mm it flung the object(s) across the plane to a new point.

I managed to move the oblongs partially back to the circle, but now, whenever I try to move them close to the circle my computer lags and I get an error message (please see picture below). Regardless of direction, my computer lags.

It will be much easier to diagnose the problem if you supply the file and tell us what version of Inventor you are using.

Pattern Features, not Sketch elements and fully define your sketches.  Assume that if you are duplicating dimensions it would probably be a good time to stop and ask questions. (I see 0.82 at least 12 times in your sketch - you are doing too much work - get lazy, let the software do the work.)

What are you attempting to model (any pictures of existing real world designs that are similar to your Design Intent)?

Attach your *.ipt file here.

Hi! I agree with JD. This should be done by feature pattern unless the oval shape is static and the number of occurrences is fixed. Using feature pattern allows you to parametrically control the shape and configure the design.

Many thanks!
