I wish you would allow us to create our own symbols (or add to the symbols currently supplied) i.e. ref, typ,  (2) places, i.d, o.d. anything really! is this possible? it seems like a waste of an opportunity, plus it would make my life better.

thank you

It would make life easier. I programed one of my mouse buttons to have a "typ(2)" key stroke. saves a lot of time when you do it 100 times a day.

You can create any symbol you like.

It's in the ribbon bar at the top in the middle.

These are leader attached symbols and not dimensions though if that's what you're after.

I know that. I have more than enough sketch symbols. The simplicity of being able to assign the symbols directly to the dim would drastically save time, and as my job is performance based every second or click counts. You give us the ability to click on the pre-arranged symbols (that we rarely use) why not make it writable? Also sketch symbols have to be moved secondary to the dim. That means more time and more clicks. I have over 8 years' experience with inventor and autodesk and I know that dimensioning and print making is the most time consuming and frustrating aspect of engineering anything. Thanks for the feedback. I haven't even gotten to the performance problems yet. But I will soon. In short I don't want alternatives to the suggestion, we as a the drafting community would appreciate the change I proposed greatly. As far a print making inventor is still way ahead of solid works. But shouldn't be your goal be to stay that way?

Hi! Another option is to leverage Inventor dwg with AutoCAD. Basically, you can reuse existing blocks in AutoCAD dwg or create new ones. Then in Inventor dwg, you can insert them easily. Also, the sketch symbols you created can be inserted too.

From data model perspective, Inventor dwg is identical to Inventor idw. It is just that it has the flexibility to open in AutoCAD or take advantage of dwg objects.

Many thanks!

As I have said before I know the several ways I can do this what I am saying is they are all slower and more of a pain then just allowing us to write options in the edit dimension pop up? Is this impossible or something? With everything else you can do with this software seems like a little change that would make a lot of drafters happy.

The options you have in there now are vast as far as symbols go. But in 8 years I haven't used them more than a half a dozen times. Please let me write my own. Pretty please
