So when you start a dimension, right mouse click and in the context menu, edit dimension is checked?   What option are you referring to in Application Options when you say edit dimension is checked, is that under the drawing tab?  If so, that's for when you are creating dimensions in drawings.

Post screen shots - both of the Application Options and the right click in-context menu.

Have you installed Service Pack 1?

So when you start a dimension, right mouse click and in the context menu, edit dimension is checked? (this is correct when I am in the sketch environment) I have looked under Application Options / Sketch Tab / Constraint Settings/ General Tab and under "Dimension" the Edit dimensions when Created box is checked however when I create a dimension it needs to be clicked once to place the dimension text then a second time to edit it. Previously the edit box appeared when I clicked to placed the dimension. (first click). What option are you referring to in Application Options when you say edit dimension is checked, is that under the drawing tab? (Yes this is also correct) If so, that's for when you are creating dimensions in text. (ok thank you in understand the difference this is not related to the above problem) _____ No virus found in this message. Service Packs typically include all previous Updates, Hotfixes & Service Packs, so no need to "install them all"-- just install SP1.

yes it is currently checked, for some reason i am getting the edit dimension option upon placement of the dimension as i was used to. so i am not sure what the solution was. i had the same problem a few months back and it came and went. i did not intentionally change any settings. it may be possible that i did unintentionally. is that the best place (right click during dimension creation) to activate the option?

thanks,

Lee

Hi! The behavior is controlled in two access points: Edit Dimension dialog and Application Options -> Drawing. When you make change in one, the other should follow. When "Edit dimension when created" option is off in Edit Dimension dialog, the same option in Application Options -> Drawing should be off, vice versa.

Could you check and see if the options are in sync?

Thanks!

I would like to edit dimensions when I create them.  I am using Inventor 2016 SP 1.  There used to be a box to check for this in Application Options under the Sketch tab.  I am enclosing two screenshots.  One of my current Application Options and one from a tip by David Gaskins in Cadalyst magazine showing an earlier version of the same screen in an earlier version with a red arrow highlighting the box I would really like to have access to again.  Is there any way I can gain this functionality again?  Is there a reason this was removed?  I am curious as to why it is no longer there.  Has it been moved?  If so to where?  Thanks!

Hi! In the same dialog, click on "Settings" button at the top under Constraint Settings. You will see "Edit dimension when created" checkbox there.

Thanks!

This is exactly my issue.  The edit dimension when created is not working for some reason, it didn't work yesterday.  Started today and it was working, then later this afternoon not working again.  I have the edit dimension checked and the edit dimension when created checked.  Gotta be something I'm not doing and I can't figure it out.
