Dynamic iAssembly with iParts

Hi Forum,

 

Im stuck on creating a dynamic iAssembly.

I've got 2 iParts, A and B, each has a circular side and a polygonal side, I've put a iMate on the circular side.

Each iPart has 2 variants, the circular side diameter can be ø100mm or ø200mm, so 4 variants in total, lets call them;

A100

B100

A200

B200

I Want to create a assembly where if i pick A100, Part B inserts the right variant (B100).

I have created a iAssembly with table replace

row 1; A100, B100

row 2; A200; B200

 

Now i can switch between the configurations and the diameter matches, which is great, but this is not the method i need.

 

I would like it to be more dynamic. E.g; i want to only pick A200, and i want part B to look for the complementairy variant (B200), without getting the information from a pre-determined table or excel sheet. So basically i want one of the parts to compare the value of the diameter parameter and find the fitting variant for it.

 

Any ideas how i can do this? thanks. 

 

PS: I've got a second question that is more complex once this question has been solved.

You would need to use ilogic and write a custom program to accomplish that task. It is not something Inventor can do out of the box without programming.

Would you still like to proceed? (see note)

 

Note: As this is likely only just a small example that you are presenting here I suspect the real world application and the ilogic code behind it will get very complex very quickly. There may be a TON of variables you need to account for,etc... 

Its VERY easy to create hundreds of iassemblies/iparts by simply copying/pasting/sequential incrementing in Excel. You may likely spend far more time trying to create a "dynamic application" vs just doing the manual work yourself. 

 

For the programming YOU will need to define each and every potential "case" option so that code can be written to accommodate them all..

Thank you for the quick reply,

 

I have indeed simplified this example to represent a real world application. I'm currently working on electric motors combined with gearboxes. 

 

I've created an iPart model of the motor which is about 120 variants based on flange and power. This was fine, but i also need to implement things like a longer fancover in case of a brake. This makes the motor 50mm longer which is a small adjustment, but this meant i had to double the variants in Excel from 120 to 240 (brake or no brake), while all other dimension used to build the model remain the same.  I need to add in a few more things,  and by copy pasting lists in excel with variants i get up to about 50.000 quickly

 

Let alone the gearbox variants which will be aroud the same number (50.000) and the possible ways of assembling them thogether you can multiply those two. i think it will get a bit much

 

I felt like there must be a way to limit the amount of variants by setting up the model in a more dynamic way,

especially for simple things such as a longer fancover on the motor.

 

Any tips?

Summary;

In the motor iPart model with 120 excel variants, i tried solving the brake thing a different way

 

I tried adding 3 user parameters to the iPart

Brakelength

Nobrakelegth

boolean (true false)

 

With a rule i programmed that based on the boolean (brake y/n) it inserted either one of the lengths into the the modelparameter 'Total_length' 

 

So'; if brake=true then Total_length=Brakelength

       else                          Total_length=Nobrakelength

 

But because i already use a excelfile the boolean column gets added to it,  its not dyamic anymore because its fills the value true or false in the column, and not both to be a choice.

 

isnt there a way to make this dynamic?
