DWG/DXF conversions?

So i am trying to model sheet metal parts out of a DXF file, which opens fine in DWG Trueview, but i was told to "import the .dxf" as i was given a pdf for one part and 2 dxf's for 2 other parts... i have completed a course on inventor, but the class only went over solid modeling, not sheet metal modeling though..

Simple Question: .Dxf converted to .DWG importation to Autodesk Inventor? is it only supposed to appear as a drawing or should it be able to convert to an undimensioned 3D object?

You can import a DXF file into a sketch.

1.) Start a new sheet-metal part

2.) Start your sketch on your X-Y work plane (you can use what ever work plane you want, sometimes exporting to IGES the "Z" is always considered the thickness).

3.) Insert your DXF file into your active sketch, this will become your flat profile

4.) Fully constrain your sketch as you would any sketch in Inventor

5.) Exit your sketch and set your correct thickness in the Sheet-Metal Style

6.) Create your main Base Profile

7.) Add any flanges with the flange tool, or add sketch's with sketch lines across the sheet for the Bend/Fold command.
