DUMB Hotkeys

I've been working with setting up Hotkeys and and found some really DUMB things. First the Good Things: You can set one Hotkey for each 'Work Feature' that will work whether in a part or assembly. You can set one Hotkey for 'Dimension' that will work in a Part sketch, Assembly Sketch, an .idw annotation, or an .idw sketch. You can set one Hotkey for 'Sketch' that will work in a Part, Assy, or .idw. You can have one Hotkey for 'Parameters' that will work in Part & Assy. Now the DUMB things: You have to set 2 different Hotkeys for 'Project Geometry': 1 for Part & Assy sketches ('Project Geometry' in '2D Sketch' Category) 1 for .idw sketches ('Project Geometry' in '2D Sketch' Category) ***DUMB!*** You have to set 3 different Hotkeys for 'Text': 1 for .idw Annotation ('Text' in 'Annotation' Category) 1 for .idw Sketches ('Text' in 'Drawing Manager' Category) 1 for Part(emboss) & Assy sketches ('Create Text' in '2D Sketch' Category) ***REALLY DUMB*** You have to set 3 different Hotkeys for 'iProperties': 1 for Part files ('iProperties in 'Part' category) 1 for Assy files ('iProperties in 'Assembly' category) 1 for Presentation files ('iProperties in 'Presentation' category) PLUS you can't access the component Properties in an Assy with a Hotkey ***TOTALLY DUMB*** Don't know why they did this, but it's a pain....oh well, I'll deal... I am working a spreadsheet that graphically represents a keyboard and shows all the default Hotkeys for plain keys, and those modified with Ctrl, Shift, & Alt (separately). It also shows all the reserved/unchangable Hotkeys and the available Hotkeys. The second sheet has all the default values removed, for your own filling in. There are some reserved Hotkeys I can't figure out. I will release this spreadsheet to the NG soon. Is there anyone who would like to take a beta look and check it out? email me at melech_g@excite.com Any input would be appreciated. (format, naming, corrections, etc.) (Anyone know what F11 & F12 do?) -- Aaron R. Friedman ARF Designs

Aaron,

My opinion to add to the DUMB hotkeys...

The reserved/unchangeable hotkeys. I don't want Adesk telling me what hotkeys I have to use for some function. I want to tell it which ones I want to use. I despise having to use "Shift +F3" for zoom to window. I would much rather use the "W"...one key for the command.

Let me decide what hot keys to use, don't tell me I have to use these because they are reserved/unchangeable.

Hey guys, i agree with the not being able to change reserved hotkeys to what you want, i have used Mechanical Desktop for 3 years now and switched over to IV8 and now i have to completely change my methods of remembering hotkeys, i also with Autodesk would come up with a resolution to this problem and have an unlock feature for hotkeys to be modified
