Dual monitor issues

Quite recently I have been experiencing issues with Inventor hiding windows/not showing them/freezing when I am using monitor 2 as my main monitor. Now some of my extra drop downs are showing only on monitor 1, even though I have my inventor open on monitor 2. There's also an issue with the log in button for vault being stuck on one side of my screen, no matter where I move it. In a different forum I had created we discovered that a windows update cause the issue with peoples vault log in being stuck, but I am having new issues with the windows hiding that I didn't have before, and I haven't done any more windows updates. (https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/vault-forum/vault-log-in-button-stuck-in-corner/m-p/8659332#M77651)

Is anyone else having these issues? Are there plans in place to do an update to fix these issues on the autodesk side?

I like to keep my monitor 2 as my main, and would hate for autodesk to just say switching my main monitor is the fix when I had no issues with this monitor as my main just a few months ago.

Regards,

Kristin

Are you running Windows 10 Version 1809 version?    It also appears to be related (like the Vault login field) to the order of your monitors as well.

Yes,
That is why I had included the link to the other forum. We (you were among the users) had a discussion there about only the vault button sticking in the corner. It was among users only, from what I had seen (didn't see any autodesk employees responding), and so I am wondering if anyone who works for autodesk is aware of these issues/know if a fix will be coming/or know if theres a reason the windows update would have caused issues like this in the program.

SCREEN ORIENTATION AND INVENTOR ISSUES.PNG

So I figured out a little more to the issue.
In the screen shot I provided it flipped my actual monitor orientation. My monitor 2 is actually on my right side and monitor 1 is to my left. Under my Display controls, as long as I have my monitors arranged with screen 1 on the right, and 2 on the left I have no issue with the functionality of inventor/the vault. Yet when I switch it so monitor 1 is left and 2 is right under display controls, it starts hiding dialog boxes and prompts that inventor gives me until I switch which monitor is the 'main', then the hidden box will pop up right in the middle of my screen with inventor open! If I don't switch my monitor, and just try to wait to get the box to pop up my inventor crashes with an 'app hang' error.

Unfortunately I am unable to roll back the windows update that caused these issues, so now I am just waiting for an inventor fix, or new windows update...?

Thanks your further check, Kristin. I can reproduce the Vault' Sign In button stuck in corner issue. But fail to reproduce the Inventor crashes. Is it possible for you to send a CER report or a video about that? Many thanks!

I am not sure how to send old crash reports, but this is how it shows in the problem reports on my computer.

The app seems to crash when I have my monitors arraigned undesirably to the program and it will hide screens somewhere where I can't see them and that seems to freeze up my program.

While using Windows 10 with my laptop, and an extra monitor, I use it as 'extended' display.  But when I use Autodesk Inventor, and I unplug my dual monitor many of the added pop up menus do not show up on the laptop ONLY monitor now.  I have set the monitor display to laptop ONLY, but that still doesn't work.  I have to plug in the external monitor to be able to move the  pop up menu to my laptop.  Example; using Mold Layout, Cavity/Core, and 'Define Workpiece Settings' and also 'Creating Patch Surface', they do NOT show up on the laptop, and are invisible until I plug in the external monitor.  That means that I ALWAYS have to have the external monitor and I can NEVER just use the laptop to work with Autodesk Inventor 2021.  It is fully updated, and so is the laptop so these are bugs in the software.  PLEASE FIX!!!!  Autodesk, you need to get these things worked out.

My issues had stemmed from an issue in the version of inventor I was running along with a windows update. Fortunately an update that inventor pushed out a month or so after my issue popped up fixed it. I am guessing you will probably also have to wait for an update that inventor is working on to correct your issues. Although you say your laptop is fully updated, it could have been a window update that bugged your inventor as it did mine.

Currently in the most up to date version of 2020, these issues aren't present.

In the mean time, while a window is hidden you can try hitting alt+tab together to see if it shows your windows there, or here is a link to some other ways to drag the hidden tab back without an extra monitor: https://www.technipages.com/bring-off-screen-window-back-onto-screen

I just plugged the 'extended' monitor back in, and changed it to 'duplicate' monitor so it will show the same screen. I just have to remember to do it before I leave so I don't have the issue.

Correction, I do still have an issue.  Once I plug in the external monitor, and change the setting to 'Duplicate' view, then unplug the external monitor, it is fine.  But!!!!!!!!!! once I turn the laptop off, and then power up again, it does the same thing, and I have to re-plug in the external monitor and do the same thing.  So I ALWAYS have to keep the laptop on once I disconnect the external monitor.  Otherwise, the pop up menus are invisible... Help?

Have you tried these work arounds at all??

Please note, I had stated the original issue I had was resolved. This issue was in 2020 and stemmed from a windows update that bugged the inventor program that is now fixed.

Since you are having this issue in 2021  and on a laptop, not a desktop as I was, and it sounds like you are having some different issues than I was, I would suggest creating a new forum post as the issue this forum post refers to is actually resolved.

I've been having dual monitor issues like this as well.
Turned out that it was a MSI audio plugin called Nahimic that was causing the issues for me.
Once I shut it down in the 'task manager', everything went back to normal and I could run my software with any of the viewport as my main display.

Looking at your image, it actually seems to support my idea about how they are just moving the login wrapper off screens.  Made a comment about it persisting in Win11 & 2023.  In my case it moves it to the screen ID 3 top right corner when vault gets minimized.  It corrects itself  at the beginning of the session but it doesn't last the complete session.
