Recover Model Annotations

Model annotations (model & 3DA) can be retrieved multiple times when a view is part of a family of views. This doesn't apply when creating a base view with multiple views and when recovery on view placement is enabled in the Application Options.

Yes, repeating model dimensions in detail is not a bad improvement, but it must work under the condition that all dimensions are not repeated in all views derived from the basic view (side view, floor plan, etc.).
This has definitely reduced the productivity of drawing creation by tens of percent! The more complex and the more views, the more time it takes.
So something has gone very wrong here!

Or am I misunderstanding this sentence and the improvement?

Hi! The enhancement is strictly limited to the "Retrieve Model Annotations" command. It does not apply to the automatically retrieving model dimensions workflow (Tools -> App Options -> Drawing -> Retrieve all model dimensions on view placement).

If it was available there, the user would need to remove undesirable duplicate dimensions in multiple views, which would take even longer to do. As a result, the user needs to explicitly use "Retrieve Model Annotations" command in order to get duplicate dimensions shown in different views.

Thank you very much for your response because I am desperate.
Yes, I have automatic dimension loading enabled.
I insert the basic view and then the floor plan, but the dimensions only show up in the basic view. So I have to use load model annotations and lots of other dimensions.
The only option is to keep inserting basic views into the drawings so that only the remaining dimensions are loaded.
I am sending a video where I hope this is shown quite clearly.

Many thanks for sharing the video! I think I know your request better now. This seems like another incomplete implementation. The App option is named "Retrieve all model dimensions on view placement." It seems to indicate that it should apply to the placement of all view types. But as far as I can tell, it only works on placing the base view, not on other view placements. The user needs to retrieve the model dimensions manually on other views.

I'm glad the video helped you understand this issue.
I don't mind having to load the dimensions manually, but I do mind that they all get loaded again. This starts the tedious work of deleting and checking if I have already used a dimension more than once somewhere. Previously, I just created views, loaded the dimensions where I wanted them, moved them somewhere if necessary, and was sure that I had used all the dimensions and that each one appeared only once in the drawing. I am sending how it worked before in the attachment.

Thank you for your interest.
Unfortunately, it seems that there is no solution from the user's perspective. It appears that the above-mentioned modification for version 2026 has resulted in an unplanned, fundamental change in the behavior of dimensioning. The procedure, which was clear and effective, has now been replaced by the complete opposite. I assume that this is a bug that arose during the programming of the modification and no one realized what a disaster it would cause. The fact that it was not planned is confirmed by the help for INVENTOR 2026, which contains false information describing functions that definitely do not work now. If you have any contacts at Inventor development, please let them know and ask them to try drawing a few drawings with the current settings. Maybe they will realize what they have done, but probably not. After all, they don't actually work with Inventor, they just create it. ☹️

Thank you for your contribution.
I looked at the idea and I think that, based on the description, it does not solve the main problem. And that a programmer may understand it differently. It says to add all dimensions to other views derived from the main one, which in my opinion is wrong. In addition, all dimensions in each view can now be loaded manually. For correct and fast dimensioning of other views, it makes no sense to add all model dimensions, but only those that are not in other views. After all, this has been the case in all versions of Inventor that I can remember, i.e., 2014-2025.

BTW: Perhaps it seems to you like just a play on words and a minor change in the creation of drawings, but believe me, there is a huge difference between how drawings were created in the past and how they are created now. That's why I'm putting so much time and energy into making sure developers know about it.
