Direct Editing future

I'm really appreciative of Inventors automated BOM and assembly management stuff. Also I'm wishing that Inventor had more comprehensive direct editing capabilities. After working with NX direct editing for years in the past, I keep wondering if Autodesk is working on direct editing to give it more capabilities? Does anybody have an inside scoop?

I think not. The essence of your question is workflow. Inventor and NX have different workflows. Fusion 360 is closer to what you are writing about.

However, I also miss the direct (synchronous) editing tools and amazing surface modeling tools in Inventor.

Hi! The Direct Edit workflow is implemented targeting primarily imported geometry without feature history. Certainly, such edit can be done on any solid body faces or the body as a whole. But the operation is only done within the scope of the Direct Edit feature. Unlike NX Synchronous, it does not retrofit the change parametrically back to the features.

At the moment, I am not aware of a near-term plan to make the change. Here is the idea on Inventor Ideas forum. Please vote for it.
