Hi, there,
We just updated to SP1 Build 210 yesterday, but found the Design Assistant does not work, from the picture, you can see the icon of .iam file has been changed to something else, which causes the system could not pick the right APP to open the file. Actually, I could not open the .iam file from here.
Eventhough I pick choose default program to inventor.exe (2016), it does not work.
Please advise how to fix it.
Thanks!
Shawn
Hi,
I'm not sure that you mean Design Assistant... that is a separate program. Looks like you're simply trying to open a file from Windows Explorer?
What happens when you select "Open"?

Yes, Design Assistant itself works properly, but when I right-click .iam files in window explorer, the design assistant does not show up, as the picture I attached. ipt, idw files are good, from the picture you can see the icon show-up are correct, but not iam files.
Seems like the system could not identify .iam's attribute, which means could not pick right program to open. Everything is good before updated with SP1 yesterday afternoon. I can pick Inventor 2014 to open it, but the file is created in 2016. It never works when I change the programe to inventor.ext in Programe files.
Thank you for your reply!
Shawn,
What happens when you try opening the files from within Inventor? Do they open using that method?

I think you have a registry problem or a corrupt Inventor user profile. Design assistant is not located under open with.. See this
And by your image you don't have any of that stuff (for example I didn't see pack n go, Iproperties, purge and etc. I would run the Inventor reset utiltiy https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcartic... Just make sure to follow the instructions before resetting Inventor

Select a folder that contains your Inventor files, then RMB on the folder and bring up the "Purge" command. This will clean out your Old Versions that resides in the Folder as well. It will also restore and allow the DA to run.
.
Had this same problem. I had to use the reset utility to get everything back. I put in a support request to get this taken care of... THREAD
Make sure to export all your customizations so you can just re-import the XML file after reset...
E: I think I misunderstood the problem, but I'll leave this up..
