Default settings for new Projects

So when I first started using Inventor, I thought that new Projects would inherit the settings from my Default project (settings like Appearance Libraries, Material Libraries, and Folder Options). However, this isn't the case. So every time I create a new Project, I have to add our 3 custom Material libraries (which is time-consuming because we can't multi-select, so I have to navigate to the folder and select them one, then navigate to the folder again and select another, then navigate to the folder again and select the last one), and then remember to set our custom library as the Active one.

Is there any way that I can set the default Material libraries for new Projects so that I don't have to manually set them up every time?

IDK... Probably "hard coded"...

"some of that" I think its pulled from application option "File" tab.. I think..

I'm just glad I only use 1 project and always have..

I think the new project "Wizard" should be better and walk people through all that 100% for all applicable settings..

It has a "select libraries" page yet doesn't do anything for materials/appearances,etc..

Nothing for folder options/freq used folders,etc...

I suppose they would say "well a new user might not know"... well.. Isn't that the point of a "Wizard"? To educate/guide?

Hi DRoam,

From memory, I was thinking that the Design Data path in the Application Options was used for this. If there is not Design Data found, you get prompted to let Inventor build out a Design Data folder.

You'll have to verify this, as I said I'm going from memory.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis

@DRoam

Project files are just under cover agents of an XML file.  You can just copy them and change the XML syntax if you want.  Just make sure you understand the format..  Smiley Wink

We get around this issue at my company by having a sample project file with all the appropriate settings, that we just copy to make new ones instead of actually starting one from scratch.  As far as I know, there is no concept of a "template" project file, so this method was the closest thing that we could come up with.
