Cylindrical Cam Design Accelerator generating models with errors

Hey all,

I am working on a barrel cam design and wanted to use the design accelerator. It is a 5th-order polynomial cylindrical cam. I input all the relevant information into the accelerator and it says that all of the calculations check out. When I click "okay" and generate the cam, the model generated is just a cylinder with no cam cut in it. If you go into the actual model details, the end surface sweep of the cam has an error on it, so the face of the cam isn't made.

I can't figure out why this is happening. I try altering the parameters just to see what will happen and no matter what my inputs are, I get the same error. If you could offer any insight into how to use the design accelerator correctly, or why this is happening, that would be great.

I have attached the 3D model and a snapshot of my issue in-case you need to see it.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Try creating with both sides and then cut away unwanted side.

I would also increase the number of points in the model generation.

Hey JDMather,

Thanks for such a quick reply! After working with the two parameters you presented a bit, I got it working as an open-face cam.

With the same settings as in the file I sent to you, the following produced the proper cam form:

- 1000 points for the model

-Lower Cam only

With the same settings as in the file I sent to you, the following produced an error (see picture in this post):

-1000 points for the model

-Both side Cams

My desire was to get an open-faced cam, but I do think it would be useful to know what is causing the error when dealing with both sides of the cam.

Any ideas?

Thank you for your help. I'm happy to have the open-faced cam working.
