cut away part in assembly

Hello,

I`m using AI2013,

When creating an assembly of a machine what is the ideal way of cutting away some section of the parts in the assembly so as to show some internal parts....i would like to make this happen in the assembly enviroment.A view with the cut away and a view without the cut away.I attached a example picture i found on the WWW to demonstarte what i would like to happen

I have used Glass before in assemblies so as to see the internals but i want the part to say remain solid for about 3/5ths and cut away 2/5ths to see inside. The picture attached is what i would like to happen

Regards

Dane

You can use a 3/4 section view, you will need to go to document settings on the parts you don't want sectioned, on the modeling tab uncheck Participate in Assembly and Drawing Sections.

You can always use the Appearance tools to quickly show sections of assemblies.

You can also create a modeld cut and perhaps a View Rep.

A third option would be Derived Component with the modeled cut.

You can also create a modeld cut and perhaps a View Rep.....would i make this cut in the assembly area and then save that cut using View Rep

Third option would be Derived Component with the modeled cut......i`ve not used the Derived Component so how would i apply this technique and how does this work?

Cheers

1. Yes. Extrude Cut at the assembly level and make a View Rep

Then Suppress the Extrude Cut and make another View Rep.

You can toggle between reps as needed.

2. Start a new part and exit sketch (if automatically in a sketch).

Derive Component and select the assembly and then do the Extrude Cut - this method is associative to the assembly, but leaves it alone.  Does require an extra part file.

Method to use depends on your reason for the visual or physical section in the first place.  You did not explain that reason in your post.  But now you have several options.  (there might be another option involving iLogic)
