Custom view orientation shows wrong scene

I have a drawing with three views, each from a different scene in my IPN.  When I do a custom view orientation for any of the three views, I only see a view from the first scene, which also happens to be the first view.  Can anyone reproduce this?

Can you post example files (or at least screen shot)?

I am not in Inventor Presentation right now to test, but I think you have to create a Snapshot for each custom view.

Hi! The custom view orientation may not be in sync with the ipn view. You will need to set the view accordingly. On Inventor 2022, there is an option in the drawing view to lock on model camera direction. It was not available on 2021 and earlier unfortunately.

Many thanks!

@johnsonshiue :  I think you're misunderstanding what's going on.  For example, when doing the custom view orientation for the view that has scene2 in it, I see the model state for scene1.  I've since discovered that it uses whatever the "active" scene is in the IPN.

@JDMather :  Unfortunately, I'd have to come up with a "dummy" model to post screenshots.

Hi @jjstr8

I am able to reproduce the issue (atleast this is what I am seeing).

If you have an a presentation file with say 3 different scenes of an assembly in 3 different model states AND

- when you create a drawing view with any of the scene AND

- select custom view orientation,

- we always show the custom view graphics to be that of the model in the active scene (in presentation).

It sounds like we are not handling the correct model state information in the drawing custom orientation view command. I will see if this is an already known issue and if not, we will investigate it and get back to you with some answers or create a defect.

FWIW, I created a simple model and you can reproduce this with the following steps.

1. Open attached IPN file (active scene is Scene2 which shows Box1.iam <model state 2>
2. Now create a drawing view of this IPN

3. By default we show View1: Scene1: which is Box1.iam

4. Select Custom view orientation

5. Graphics shown in custom view represents Box1.iam<model state 1> (this is the problem!)

Thanks for reporting this.

Hi @jjstr8

I have created a INVGEN-54398 to track this issue. It's also reproducible in 2021 and earlier - you can reproduce the same issue with LOD workflows.

The problem seems to be a mismatch in the logic where we compare the view name to the explosion name. The drawing view dialog says: "Scene1: View1" while the Presentation view "Scene1".

I am looking to find the best way to fix the logic - it should be straightforward, but the fix would need to go through the usual rounds of validation.

As a workaround, you can still orient the model in any way using the custom orientation - its just that the model shown in the custom environment is incorrect. The final result should still be ok.

Thanks and let me know if you have any further questions - and thanks for reporting this - good find!!

Thank you for the prompt response.  Now that I know that I can leave the IPN open and select the correct scene prior to doing the custom view orientation, it makes more manageable.

Hi @jjstr8

Yeah, that would work. I found the root cause of the problem. I think this must have been introduced when presentations were reworked a few years back. In anycase, I found the problem and know how to fix it. It should be straightforward.

Thanks
