Custom properties Inventor 2023-Vault Basic

Hello,

We used Vault Work Group for a long tine.

Now we are supposed to go over to Vault Basic. ( I do not know if it has anything to do with this case but still)

In the same time we went over from Inventor 2020 to Inventor 2023

Everything is going as planned but I discovered one problem.

I am not allowed to add/ modify Custum properties for my parts.

Everything is grey!!! See pic.

This is where we add SPECIFICATION which is supposed to show up on our parts lists.

I should mention that it works for assemblies.

( I just need to add that column to Bill of Material. But there is no bill of materials for single part)

OK,

I just found out!

In 2023 version I have to change some document settings for part.

By default, Bill of Materials Bom Structure is set to Normal

I change it to Inseparable and everything works again.

Now I need to found out how to change this setting globally for all parts.

Hi! The component's (part or subassembly) default BOM structure is saved in Tools -> Doc Settings -> BOM. You may apply an instance-level override to a given instance within an assembly (toggled between Default and Reference).

You can also change the BOM structure setting in the BOM table. In an assembly, open the BOM table change the BOM structure for a given row. This change will be saved back to the component document.

In your case, you may place the parts of interest in an assembly. Then use BOM table to change the BOM structure.

Many thanks!

That doesn't sound right.  Vault or no Vault, you should not have to change the BOM structure to edit iProperties.

The most common reason for the iProperties being "grey" is because the file is read only (not checked out).

During your investigation of Document Settings, did you check the file out?  Changing the BOM Structure to something other than "Normal" will likely have undesirable effects on your BOM and subsequent Parts Lists.

I will follow your instructions and hopefully do it right tomorrow.

There are several thousands parts and they all comes right in parts lists but they  have been definied in previous Inventor versions ( from 2015 and so on until 2020). But I could not change the text because it was disabled.

I just started to create new parts and discovered this. Solution I found was result of my panic mode.

Just to be sure I’m gonna test it tomorrow again.

I don’t know if it is clear on my picture, part on it was just created in Inventor ( name : part1)

It has not even been checked in yet.

Still “Grey”

I have some other parts that don’t belong to our company. They were never checked in.

When I open those in Inventor 2023 custom properties are Grey.

I think what you're seeing is a difference between 2020 and 2023 rather than anything to do with Vault.

I just tried a new part in 2023 - not checked into Vault (not even saved) - and the Custom iProperties is greyed out as per your screenshot:

But it isn't read only - the buttons are context sensitive.  They'll change when you enter something:

Thanks - I have learnt something new this morning!

It didn't work but because of another crashing issue we decided to reinstall Inventor 2023.

Everything works normally now.

Thank you guys a lot

I learned a lot from all suggested solutions.
