Custom Frame Generator Profile - Length does not update when trimming/extending

I'm trying to add some custom frame generator structural shapes. How can I cause the member length to update with each part?  How do I make the G_L (final length, after any end treatments) write to the part number of each frame member? Currently, the member names in the tree show the base length, which becomes incorrect after trimming, etc, and on the BOM, all the members are collecting under the same part number.

The answer involves an advanced level skill set.

How can I cause the member length to update with each part?

Depends on if you use out-of-the-box Inventor or have your own custom library system already setup. You can accomplish this a number of ways, depending on your setup.

Same as above. You do it by changing the PartNumber in the FamilyTable of the CC part. You can find a lot of info on this doing a search in this forum, on Google or YouTube.

If you just want to change that one piece of data, you can change the Equation in the FamilyTable to include G_L instead of B_L. I do it by creating a whole new Equation compared to out-of-the-box Inventor. If memory serves, the simplest way to do that is to type this into the Equation box: =<Stock Number> x <G_L> Long

That should get you started. If the result is not what you want, then you'll have to learn the basics of creating or modifying a CC part, as well as the way to set up the CC part, BOM and PartsList Style to make this work for you.

The other question is too involved for me to get into without first knowing how your CC parts are setup, how your BOM is arranged and how your PartsList Style is configured.

Hi! Without seeing the files, I can only speculate the causes. It sounds to me that the custom frame profile was not properly authored and published. I suggest you take a look at one standard profile and compare your family table with the standard one.

Please feel free to share the custom frame file here. The forum experts can help take a look to understand the issue better.

Many thanks!
