Cross-Section in Assembly

In Solidworks, when I take a cross-section in an assembly, I have the option of selecting which parts will be sectioned.  For example, sometimes it's better to show an internal part not section, but all the surrounding parts sectioned.  I have not figured out a way to do this in Inventor?

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Todd,

The control over the behavior is not intuitive. You will need to open the part file and go to Tools -> Doc Settings -> Modeling -> uncheck "Participate in assembly and drawing section."

I personally think this option is too restrictive. An assembly level control should be allowed.

Hi Todd,

You can do this easily by 

1. open the part in question which you do not want to section

2. document settings + modeling tab + UNCHECK "participate in assembly and drawing sections"

3. Apply

Then attempt your section again, it should work.

In drawings, you can rmb click on a component in the browser and set the sectionability attribute directly. In assemblies, we dont have a dynamic way to control the sectionability on the fly. What would have been nicer is expose that checkbox in the iproperties / occurrence tab to control sectionability.
