Is there a way to create a "part" on a certain layer? So that when the view is brought into a drawing it is already on the desired layer and you don't have to select all the edges and change them with each view. I've seen ways of possibly doing it with code but i was hoping there might be a simpler way. Thanks in advance.

Hi! There is indeed a workflow allowing you to export Inventor drawing to AutoCAD Mechanical drawing by assigning Layer Groups. On exporting to AutoCAD dwg, select AutoCAD Mechanical as the file type. You will see the following dialog. Is this what you are looking for?

Many thanks!

Nope.  But there is an easier way to change layers on the drawing- find the part in the browser, right click > Select as Edges, then change layers.  That saves the tedium of manually selecting everything.
