Creating a Part from a topographic survey

Hi All,

I have a topographic survey in 2D in ACAD with spot heights and contour lines and I'm looking to make part to represent the existing terrain before we install some equipment on the site.

I tried individually importing each contour line from ACAD onto planes set at 1 m intervals but I can't figure out how to loft a surface between the line to create the surface.

As an alternative, I tried closing the contour into a loop to create a series of stepped solids but I could not close the loop sketch loop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Barry

Thanks JDMather,

to start, I converted a pdf to .dxf and then saved as .dwg for importing into Inventor sketches.

Thanks for your help,

Barry

When in import you must have Constrain Endpoints turned on.

Also - you can probably significantly simplify the sketches for your need.

And, you should install the Service Packs for your version of Inventor.

JDMather..

I know it's been a few years but hoping you'll still receive this message.

Was wondering if you can walk me through your process as I'm trying to do the exact same thing as described by the other gentleman you helped.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jon,

Please make sure the topographic data is within +-100m in each direction. Inventor has a fixed valid model range. Any operation exceeding the range may exhibit unpredictable behaviors.

Inventor is a true-scaled modeler. But, you can reduce the scale manually. For example, you can say 1 actual meter equals to 1 millimeter in Inventor. In this way, the data will likely be within the valid range (1:1000).

Many thanks!
