Corel Draw to Inventor

HI guys,

Im hoping someone can help.

 

Im using Inventor 2013 and trying to import a drawing from corel draw graphic suite x7.

 

Is there any way of doing this?

 

The problem is the curves on the drawing are all a bit random so there is no way of re drawing it exactly in inventor so Im trying to import the file.

Ive tried lots of different ways but wont seem to work.


Hopefully someone has a secret out there 🙂

That does help w/ node reduction, but when the geometry is brought in, it is treated as separate lines, not a continuous one. This presents a problem when trying to 3D cut / Extrude into anything. For this example, I'm creating a inlay project with my students. I would like kids create a decal in CorelDRAW, export as DXF or DWG and input into Inventor to create a 3D model of the inlay. Here we can then put tool paths using HSM for inventor. The only way I have successfully done this was to take CorelDRAW's dxf and input into SolidWorks. Then save the SLDWRK file and import the solidworks 3D model into Inventor to put put the toolpaths on! Seems silly. Not sure what option Inventor doesn't like from CorelDRAW's vector output, but it's a PAIN! I attached pics demonstrating. cap4.jpg shows only a single pc of geometry selected when trying to select an extrude cut command. This happens with toolpaths as well. Why are these lines treated as separate entities. I have tried researching techniques and applying different options but with no luck. Cap5.jpg shows what I'm looking to accomplish. I try it but , won't work, I get only silly lines and points (no vectors), and the inventor will crash or work very slow on it, I try all kind of trick and tips within corel or Aspire, but since they come on Inventor the Inventor go crazy.

Perhaps on the next versions someone can work on this feature, many files come to us on other programs and we need to have a way to work on it.

I have a very basic file that was drawn in Corel Draw. I have saved it as both a DWG and a DXF trying to import the file into Inventor and be able to manipulate the sketch.  When I create a new part and import the DWG, I am able to select a plane. However, once I do that, my commands cease and I cannot perform any task.  Am I doing something incorrectly? I am a self-taught beginner at anything CAD related. Any help will be appreciated.

If you cant just open the dxf with Inventor, try opening the dxf in autocad and selecting all the lines copy them and paste them into an inventor sketch.

If it's allready solved sorry for post:

Use coreldraw save your work in .cdr

open .cdr file in inkscape, resize page to your work and save as .dxf

tried today and boom :). 

so happy!!

Old Post here, but did you ever figure out why such the lag when moving these .dxf files around in sketch mode? I have the same issue over at my school. Thanks!

Hi,  maybe this can help you in something. As they say right here, you must first vectorize the drawing in corel and then export it to dxf, or dwg. It is true how well they clarify here that many nodes complicate the process in inventor, what personally has worked for me, is to take the dwg in Rhino, make an extrusion, and then export it as a step, and then open it as an inventor, practically this process it has not failed me, in the way a simple spline is generated and it does not usually give problems in inventor, sometimes the direct import in inventor hinders the creation of closed curves and prevents me from making a solid extrusion. I ended up switching over Fusion360. Night and day. Much higher success rate with my export / import process with CorelDRAW X8. Although sometimes Fusion doesn't see the geometry as completely enclosed splines which does create a prob for my end result of putting tool paths on the extrudes or cuts. Usually smartfilling the geometry that gives me the prob and re exporting it (as a curve if text) at hairline thickness does the trick. Good luck

Hello, this also happens to me, when I want to pass a drawing of Corel Draw X7 saved as DXF or DWG, the same thing happens to everyone, the lines in the Inventor appear open, and I have not found the way to close the drawing to be able to extrude it.
Thank God I found a solution, the drawings of the Corel I open them in the Artcam, then I save these vectors exporting them to DXF, then this DXF I open it with the Inventor and Voala, it works perfectly, I can already extrude it as if it were a native drawing of inventor. I hope this solution helps someone.

Hi! Another option for users who have access to AutoCAD/AutoCAD Raster Design. It can convert raster image to vector lines or curves. Then you can save it as dwg/dxf and Inventor can import the file.

Steps Import a file from CorelDraw 2019 to Inventor 2020 CorelDraw: Combine artwork Using shape tool -> select all nodes and select break curve. Export artwork as DXF - AutoCAD 2000-2002, leave all other settings as default. Inventor Open standard .ipt (I use metric/mm) Start 2D sketch Select Insert AutoCAD file Under file type select DXF file and locate DXF exported from CorelDRAW Leave all other settings as default. If you follow these steps you should have a 2D sketch that you can extrude and work with.

Unfortunaley when I "select all nodes and select break curve" in CorelDraw, it will seperate the geometry when I export into another AutoDesk product such as Fusion.

I find that the import process into inventor goes quicker and more
successfully if the geometry is broken up. I don't know about fusion but
inventor actually joins the geometry together once imported and then you
are able to extrude or emboss it. Just try to reduce the nodes to minimum
and make sure that all fonts are converted to curves before exporting.
