Copy & Paste Between Inventor Sessions

I often run 2 concurrent sessions of Inventor 2019 (one in each of my 2 screens) so I can see prior drawings and parts to make sure I'm consistent between them.

Is there a way to copy items from one Inventor drawing in one session to another drawing in a different session?

What exactly are you trying to copy from one to the other?

Windows 10 x64 -16GB Ram
Intel i7-6700 @ 3.41ghz
nVidia GTS 250 - 1 GB
Inventor Pro 2018

Any regular text or numbers, etc., that can be handled by Windows OS will work just fine.  But any Inventor specific data such as copying a part from one assembly to another or sketch data will not work between 2 separate sessions as they don't share the same memory space.

Unfortunately there isn't a function to spread Inventor across multiple screens, despite demand for years.  Feel free to search for this functionality in the Inventor Ideas forum and vote for all of the multi-screen posts to let Autodesk know we want this capability.

Yep...as Philip said, text, leaders, sketches possibly, even views to populate the titleblock when starting off a drawing.

I'd also LOVE the ability to change a part or assembly's iproperties directly from a drawing (not having to open said part or assembly to do so).

We want that iProperties function as well, vote if you find that idea, or create the idea and post it here to gather support.

I get text.  That is easy, if you highlight the text in the edit window you can copy paste from one to another.

Leaders are easy to create so I don't understand why you would need to copy from one to the other with that.

As far as properties, yes, to update the model properties within the drawing would be a nice addition, but you can modify them from within windows explorer or Vault.

Maybe these links will help you.

Hi! I don't believe the workflow is supported in drawing at the moment. You can copy and paste entire sheet from one drawing to another within the same session. Or, you can copy and paste drawing views from one sheet to another within the same document. Unfortunately, not across sessions at the moment.

Many thanks!

Multi session or multi screen support has been asked about for years, can you tell us whether or not it's a feature being worked on for a feature release?

Seems to be excess of short-shortsightedness on Autodesk's part.  Seems really odd that I can copy drawing entities from AutoCAD r14, and paste them directly into an inventor .idw or .ipt file (not a concurrent memory location to say the least) yet we cannot copy/paste from two different inventor sessions.

I cannot open both files in the same session as they each have their own project file; thus the need for two individual inventor sessions.

Hi Kim,

Copy and paste drawing sheets across sessions is still not supported. For the same project, I can see the usage. But, across different projects, I can anticipate some technical challenge. The issue here is that the reference file path in one session may be different than in the other session (particularly when a different project is active).

I am not aware of a near-term plan to support it. You may want to leverage iLogic Design Copy or Vault Copy Design to replicate the drawing.

Many thanks!
