Copied Assembly Causing Issues w/ Original

Hi folks,

Need your help here.I have an assembly called '1.iam' which is made up of a cap and an adaptor. I only need the cap, so I saved 1.iam in my own folder as 2.iam and deleted the adaptor from the model, and saved again. 1.iam and 2.iam are okay, th eoriginal is as it should be and the copy looks good but when I try to check the original back into Vault, it is unable to do so due to the adaptor having been deleted from the copy.

I know there's tools out there such as Design Copy, Copy Design, Pack and Go and whatnot but I don't understand them or what is the best way to go around this. I'm still fairly new to Inventor so any help is much appreciated.

Best advice is never use "Save as" with Inventor.  You can make a mess of assembly references all over the place, in a big hurry.  If you have Vault, and it includes Copy Design... use that.  It's a very powerful tool that will copy only what you need to copy, and create a brand new design with its own independent file references.  Start small until you get used to the interface, and take a look at this class from Autodesk University this year:

This is wonderful, thank you. I wasn't aware of 'Save As' being problematic. I'll keep this in mind!
