converting downloaded surface models

This model is full of holes - it's just an example, but the processes to fix it is long winded.

Ok not fix it, but reduce the file size, convert to a solid model.

it's painstaking going around & patching the holes.

I don't think there's easy fix or a tool to magically convert files like this?

I'm not after this being converted it's just to illustrate the problem - convert to solid within 2 minutes?

I can imagine that it's a derived part from Solidworks.

Hi! Do you still have the source file? The part has a lot of missing faces. Also it probably represents a small assembly not a part. To convert it to a solid, it is doable but very tedious. Recreating it from scratch may be faster. Or, you simply use it as a reference without converting it to a solid.

Many thanks!

Apologies - i'd forgotten i'd already posted this but it's so frustrating!

I've been told a 'common sense' approach is needed when simplifying downloaded content - this file is one to leave alone.

Here's a 2D drawing of this safety shear. The 3D file is purely incomplete.
