Converting a 3D DWG file to STEP format

I've been sent a 3d DWG file from a customer which opens in DWG TrueView, I would like to convert it to a 3D format such as STEP, so I can open in Inventor.  Can anyone advise how I can do this?

just open it in Inventor.

While you are in the Open dialog window, locate the .dwg file and just highlight it.  Then at the bottom of the Open window, click on the Options button, and choose "Import".

Follow along with the next three windows that pop up prompting you all of the options, it's on the 3rd screen where you may need to adjust some things in order to get the 3d model to open up as you expect.

What if the "Options" Box is greyed out?

Hi! I think @ampster40 was talking about opening a DWG file. I guess you are talking about opening STEP file. On Inventor 2016 and later, Options button in STEP and some other file types is grayed out, the options are available in the following dialog after you click Open.

Many thanks!
