Convert Solid Model to Surface Model for Analysis - Reg.,

I have gone thru some similar threads for conversion of Soild to Surface, but still looking for relevant solution.

Am using Inventor Professional 2019.

I need to Convert my Solid Models either parts or sub-level assemblies or a top level assembly into a Surface Model to provide as an input for Analysis. Extracted surfaces should be the centre line of profiles.

A single part file can be done using "Offset Surface" & "Extend Surface" but Conversion for large assemblies is not such an easy task.

Is there any options available for conversion of Assembly files from Solid to Surface?

Any suggestions would help a lot.

Hi! I think you can use IGES Export. Open the assembly and go to File -> Export -> CAD format -> select IGES -> Options -> make sure Surface option is selected. After that, import the IGES file to a new part. It should be all surfaces.

Many thanks!

Thin Features in Analysis will create mid-plane surfaces.

Attach your file here if you can’t figure it out.

Yes. It comes out as a Surface model in IGES Export.

But the surfaces created are just the outline of Solid bodies.

I have to provide the midline as surfaces of all solid bodies together  in my assembly as an input for Ansys.

i would like to convert the attached Part file into a Surface model that the surface of each part defines its mid-plane surfaces. Such that i would forward to Ansys team and they would add thickness as desired for Analysis.

I had more trouble with this than I was expecting.

You can manually Offset the surfaces, but it will take time.

My first though was - derive the part into a new file as surface. With assembly you would have to do it twice.

Cheers,

Igor.
