content center parts refresh to wrong size

Hi All,

We’ve detected a huge problem with ContentCenter. Our bolts are refreshed to totally random sizes when we hit the refresh button in the manage tab of Inventor.

I’ve added 2 videos to show what happened. The second video shows something I found out in the Excel view of the CC file. There are some hidden columns which have some weird unique IDs.

Hidden columns are:

  • RID_TITLE
  • Status_TITLE

Others do not have column names.

Our suggestion is that it has something to do with adding new rows to the existing table.

Is there someone out there who can help us?

Many years ago I did an alteration and was placing cells in an order to sort and found out the hard way that if you move cells only and not the rows with it, it causes a big issue as the row id's get messed up. Luckily I had a back up of the spread sheet and was able to copy/paste over and all went back to normal. You can add rows all you want, but if you have existing data and move cells, now the existing ID has different information. I edit CC spread sheets all the time, and add/remove.

If you originally started with doing a save as of the default family and copied as an independent family then you may need to start from scratch, luckily fasteners are pretty quick to redo if you need to.  If everything is name EXACTLY the same, then I believe updating vault should be easy.

Hi Blandb,

Thanks for your response, it was really helpful.

We were able to locate the corrupted Excel rows.

We believe we’ve sorted the columns through Excel, but not all of them changed with it.

Our tip for the future: Never add new CC parts through Excel; always use the inventor table.

I always add new lines via the excel table. If it is just 1 then I use just the view in the family editor. Editor takes forever if you need to mass add. If I have to add a lot, then edit via excel always. Adding has nothing to do with your issue. The issue you had was you more than likely moved cells to sort vs moving the entire rows of existing items. That is what messed things up.

Due to my boss he only wants things visible that he currently uses, so if a new item appears on a job then he wants me to add it to the family as needed. So that may require me to add several variants of let's say stainless steel instead of galvanized. I will edit the family table via excel copy just the black columns as they are static and paste below in excel amd change whatbis necessary much as material and part number. Repeat for other columns. When you save you will see the family table update yellow items appear and then the blue columns will auto populate with their equations. I believe when you apply or ok that, that is when the row id's are made. Now if I were to go back and edit the family table again I wouldn't want to move just cells around...you NEED to move the entire now. Hope that helps. Don't be scared to add via excel...just remember MOVE Entire Rows. Lol
