Constrains managing in Iam

Hi to all.

In my opinion it's too difficult to manage and navigate the constraints (X-Y-Z) for any single parts assembled.
It's would be possible to keep only the basic 3 constraints for part and avoid to see more constraints related to the same part coming from other components?

Hi! I think I know what you are asking. You would like to isolate the constraints between two components, right? Indeed, there isn't a workflow to do exactly that. But, you could use two other workflows to see the target constraints.

 

1) In Relationship section, click on Show button -> pick two components. The constraints involving the two will be shown in the graphics window.

Or

2) Right-click on any constraint -> Other half. The other component participating the constraint will be highlighted.

Hi Marco,

 

     You can try doing sketch planes in part file and derive that part file everytime you place an part. Then in final assembly you can ground and root the components so each part will have only 3 constraints. if you do each component / part in sketch plane. So reference part will have only sketch no protrusion and that sketch needs defined axis with names. For example you have hinge pin on a crane then write down the axis or plane as hinge pin. 

 

                       Then when you create any part use same sketch for constraining all parts. If assembly is too big its very tedious to constraint all parts as you need to know exact location. so play with 3 to 4 parts to make an assembly then do the constraining of assembly in the sketch planes ...on top level all you have to do is ground and root. either ways, you have to constraint them more than 1ce.

Let me try to explain better 🙂

 

Before... let me say that I come from 15 years of pro-e/creo and I working with Inventor from 3 months... be patient Smiley LOL

 

I enclose a screenshot of a small .iam file created to explaine better what I mean.
As you can see, I assembled a plate with some standard parts (screws, nuts).

I ask if possible to manage or customize the model tree in order to see the constraints only below the part directly involved in the assembling.
From the example attached: ok to see the assembling constraints below the part directly involved in the assembling (screws, nuts) but I would like to avoid to have the same constraints (is a duplicate!) also below the part (plate) that receive this part.
In my opinion this way creates a lot of confusion and there are too many redundant information that make difficult to identify the primary constraints from the secondary ones.
With a big assembling these factors are amplified exponentially making difficult to identify a constraints and their management

Of course this is my opinion which is certainly very influenced by years spent working with a different software.

Those constraints from the pem hardware shouldn't be listed under the sheet metal parts..

Inventor does not have any concept of primary and secondary constraints, as far as I know.  When the browser is in Assembly mode, each component displays all the constraints in which it participates.  That's all.

 

@mcgyvr, I don't see anything out of line with the constraints as shown in the previously attached image... There are seven constraints total, all of which involve the base plate; they all appear there, and each one is listed under the other component to which it applies.

where 2 different parts..

Too early for me to attempt to comprehend foreign languages Smiley Tongue

 

Everything looks totally fine once I actually pay attention to the comma..

OK... so I'll have to get used to this Smiley Frustrated


However I believe it's a huge limit.
It would have been enough at least highlight what are direct and derivative constraints in order to differentiate them and make navigation more easier in large assemblies.

When you constrain a PEM nut and a plate together, you have a constraint between them-- can't see how it could be categorized as direct or derivative, it's just a constraint.

I assumed that they only want to see the constraints involved in positioning that specific part in xyz space...
