When activating a cable in an assembly to edit the component opacity doesn't turn on for the cable. I have to go in to the Options>Assembly>and change the Active Only for the opacity. If I activate any other part, the option stays at active only for opacity. This is for all assemblies. Why?

Hi,
Please activate a cable and in the cable and harness environment check to see which visibility option is checked. The default is Center line. If one of the other options like Rendered display is checked that could explain it.
In Tube & Pipe this used to be a problem, and then they added a check box in Tube & Pipe Setting, from right clicking on the Master Pipe Run in your model tree. This new check box sets Tube & Pipe transparency to "Honor Application Options for Transparency".
Prior to this T&P did the same as C&H, it set it's OWN rules for transparency. Do you know if the same was added somewhere in C&H.... or could be added?
@jesscadd it might be (based on mercerc's response to above) that this should be added to the Idea Station for future consideration.

I activated a cable assembly with the centerline option and the opacity for the rest of the assembly never changed.
I can send it to the Idea Station.
The functionality is there, because I can manually go to the Application Options > Assembly > Component Opacity option and change it to Active only and it will work. I just want it automatic like activation any other part in an assembly.
I had the same problem with tube & pipe. I had to create a hot key to toggle the transparency. It was my Idea Station post that got it added to t&p, so I wish you luck with Cable & Harness!

I'm not sure this applies to your issue, but I had a similar problem with a harness representing a welding ground.
In the harness assembly, everything looks great, however, in the top level assembly, I was seeing only the wire. I finally got it to display by toggling the "Construction Surfaces" option in "Object Visibility":
