Changing units

I'm trying to change units in Inventor 2022 but it's only letting me change a single project at a time. Is there a way to change the application's default?

It's in your document settings for your templates.

Unless you are talking about materials in which case it's in the bottom left of the material window.

I'm pretty sure It's on a per document setting.
Therefore you need to set it in your template files document settings.

Hi! As James mentioned, the unit setting is on per document basis (iam and ipt files), since Inventor support mixed unit modeling.

For existing files, you do need to go to Tools -> Doc Settings -> Unit to change the default unit. For new files, you can change the default template units. Go to Tools -> App options -> Files -> Configure Default Templates. In this way, all newly created files will have the desirable default units.

Many thanks!

as @johnsonshiue mentioned before, to configure your default template you have to go to Tools -> App options -> Files -> Configure Default Templates. There I'm pretty sure you can pick either mm or in ( I don't remember it's been a while) and from then on in all your new files will be the setting you choose.

Hi,
Thanks for prompt reply. I did follow the word by word instructions. However, it does for that particular file only. If I open another/ new file,I have to repeat the same process again. I believe there should be some settings where I can choose default and “inch” option would be disappear for good until I select it.
I wonder how come Autodesk is shying away from this kinda regular/more often issue….?
Couldn’t find the answer from developer itself.

Thanks man,

This exactly I did but NO LUCK.

problem is even if I do these listed changes, settings would be changed for current file only, Next time when I open, Inhave to do this all the steps to change fromInch to MM.

I am trying to see other answers in case of someone has a similar issue and found solutions, I will share here if I got anything helpful.

Copy and paste an image of the File tab of your Application Options dialog (Alt-PrtScr in the dialog, then paste in the message).  It seems that your computer is preventing those settings from being saved.

Hi! Is this drawing or part or assembly? How did you start a new file? Please follow the steps closely.

1) Go to Project settings -> Folder Options -> Template. Then go to the template path in File Explorer to see if there are Standard template files.

2) Change the units in the Standard template files. Or, skip to next step.

3) Go to Tools -> App Options -> File -> Configure Default Templates -> select the desirable standard and unit.

A set of Standard template files should be created in your template folder.

Start a new file from File -> New -> Create a New File or click on the New button in upper left corner (Standard template is used if existed).

Many thanks!

I installed the German language package and chose it under templates on the left-hand side after clicking "new". By default, an English template is selected but after installing the German package I could choose it (symbol of a folder, see attached file).
