Changing to single monitor setup from dual monitor

Hi All,

New here so unsure if this is the right place to post this, I've had a look and can't find this question being asked before.

Due to the current pandemic i'm currently working from home with my PC connected up to a single monitor rather than my 2 monitors at work. When i try to check in an assembly to the vault from inventor the pop up with the progress bar appears and completes,  but the pop up where you confirm which parts you want to check in with the check boxes doesn't.

I think its appearing off screen as inventor stops responding and every time i click i can hear the ping telling me to click the active window. I've tried minimising the screen and looking behind inventor and it's not appearing there, its not appearing in the task manager or the taskbar so i can't switch to it either. any ideas on how to solve this will be greatly appreciated, i'm on a tight deadline and unable to save my work back to the vault.

Thanks in advance,

Charlie

When the dialog comes up do this to move it back onto your screen..

To move a dialog using just the keyboard:
  1. Hold down the ALT key.
  2. Press SPACEBAR.
  3. Press M (Move).
  4. A 4-headed arrow will appear. When it does, use your arrow keys to move the outline of the window.
  5. When you are happy with its position, press ENTER.

and really I think you just need to press any arrow key once and the dialog will now be locked to the mouse position.. Move your mouse around until you see the dialog back on your screen

THANK YOU SO MUCH MCGYVR!

Following the 4 steps doesn't bring the window back but once hitting the arrow keys (specifically the down key) it appears. The next time i do it this happens again though, is there a way of making it happen permanently?

The steps work you just need to keep pressing the direction arrows enough to get it into view.. That may require multiple presses in different directions depending on where it is.. But yes having it snapped to the mouse is much easier..

The process of hitting "enter" at the end should capture its current position and set that as default..

If that isn't happening you may have a registry permissions issue or this may be a different dialog box and you need to do it for more than one..

You can also run the Inventor reset utility which I believe will reset the dialog box positions back to a single monitor setup..

Myself and a colleague have had this issue for over a month now and have just been hitting enter and esc and praying it did what we wanted. We tried a few window moving techniques but they hadn't work. This one didn't quite work for me but I don't think I was actually doing it correctly. What worked for me in the end (FYI I'm on Windows 7) was opening task manager right clicking on the "File not checked out" process and clicking maximise. When I dragged it out of it's maximised window it was finally back on my main screen.

This is a known problem with Inventor, changing from multiple screens to single screen and has been happening since 2005 or longer.

Why isn't Autodesk fixing this?

Hi Andrew,

I am sorry I am a bit confused. Multi-screen support on Inventor was not implemented before 2019. How was it a legacy issue? Your issue may not be the same as thread. Please share a video or a workflow that exhibits the behavior.

Many thanks!

I think it's the same issue, and it's been around for a long time. Don't
have any videos from 10 years ago of course but I'm sure someone else out
there in the community has experienced this in the past (even before 2019).
I can remember in 2012 working with my inventor browser dragged to a second
screen. When I relocated to a client site, I was only using one screen.
This created a problem with no browser shown, I had to find another monitor
to plug in and drag the browser back across.

Hi Thanks for reporting the issue.

We have fixed one similar issue for the Ribbon on R2021, now Ribbon is converted to dockable pane like property panel and browser and will return to the single monitor after changing from dual monitor.

Could you please help inform your Inventor release so we could check whether this is the same issue?

Thanks,

Hi Joyce,

I'm using 2021 release. At the time of the issue described above, I was using 2010.

Still having problems (sometimes) with the current release when double clicking a dimension in a drawing, I'm getting a ding tone, then once I press Alt + space bar the window appears, and I can close fixing the problem.

It seemed there was a box to OK before the Edit Dimension box appeared, when I was using three monitors this box would appear on the third monitor.

Seems to be ok now that I've used the Alt + space bar a few times and moved it to the first monitor.

@andrew.fergussonFGGC5 ,

Glad to know Alt + space bar solved your problem. Could you please help attach the dialog box (popup before Edit Dimension box appeared) you mentioned for our further check? Many thanks!

Hi

After double clicking, here is a screen shot of the window that doesn't show unless you Alt + Spacebar.
