Change Inventor Default Template

I'm trying to figure out a way to change the default template to one of my own creation. Now, I have a good grasp on the idea of the "Templates" folder and saving templates to there. My question is about a very specific problem: When I click the top-left-hand corner Inventor symbol, click the arrow next to "New," and click "Drawing," it opens up the Standard Inventor drawing template (screenshot attached of what I mean).

When I remove the Standard.idw from the Templates folder and add my own MyTemplate.idw, the same New Drawing procedure described above yields only an error message:
"Standard.dwg is not found."

Is there a way to change the file that this "New" "Drawing" points to?

Thanks!

Simply save MyTemplate as Standard.  If you want to start from idw rather than dwg - change that in Application Options.

Is there a way to change the file that Inventor searches for as opposed to changing the file name?

Nope.  Either name your template "Standard", or click New and select the template you want.  I prefer a combination of the two: we have three drawing templates, and the most commonly used one is named Standard.idw, but I always click on the New icon (or Ctrl-N) and then choose the one I want.

Gosh, perhaps that is something that Autodesk could look into - allowing us to point the template to the file we want.

Hi! I am sorry that I am not sure I understand the request here. You can always select a template (non-Standard) to start a new file. Certain workflows do default to "Standard" templates. Could you elaborate your requirements?

Many thanks!

When one clicks on the quick launch button to create a new drawing, Inventor defaults to opening the filename "standard".  There's no setting to open a different default filename.

One needs to click file->new-> {choose template filename other than standard} in order to create a new file with the desired template.

I am on 2023 and still wondering if this can be done. It's so much faster to just click the quick new drawing and have it bring up the template that I chose to be default. I am only seeing the solution to change my companies default template name to "standard.idw"

Agreed.  I'd prefer my users click on the button and get directed to the templates that I'd like them to use without having to name these templates as "Standard".  This way I can clearly identify which templates are ours, Inventor's or a client's.  Renaming these files messes with that completely.
