Change default idw layer from Visible(Ansi) to another layer

Is there a way to set the default layer to a custom layer instead of the "Visible (ANSI)" layer when placing views in an IDW?

The reason for needing this is I have an assembly with a large amount of fine detail on each page. Not possible to reduce the detail on the models, but every sheet has to have the layers changed to a particular one. The drawing set is a progressive build and the goal is to grey out previously detailed equipment. But with every sheet added, these fine detail models have to be re-layered over and over which is starting to take far too much time.

Goal: To place the view on the greyed out layer upon placing the view then change the new equipment to Visible Ansi.

In your drawing or your template, go to Manage/Styles and under the style you're using for your drawing/template change the object defaults for the layer.

I have used locked Design Reps in the assembly and shaded views in the drawings for this type of work in the past.

I like this workflow because I can create a new Parts List (filtered by the design rep, plus some manual steps) to show the components used in the specific assembly step.

You may find it easier than adjusting layers in the drawing environment.

I am currently using locked design reps, HUGE benefit to these so I second that! Might be able to try your suggestion in the future, but currently our customer needs the drawing solely in black & white pen without shading (indifferent from a CAD produced drawing). Thank you for suggesting the idea though ^^
